UFC 229 Scores Big With FS1 ‘Prelims’

With the help of the Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov lightweight title fight, the UFC 229 pay-per-view (PPV) was truly an “event,” which means mixed martial arts (MMA) fans were making a night of it.

That’s probably why a ho-hum “Prelims” card on FOX Sports 1, topped by the flyweight showdown featuring Jussier Formiga’s unanimous decision win over Sergio Pettis, drew the highest average since the UFC 193: “Rousey vs. Holm” preliminary card back in late 2015.

1,308,000, according to MMA Fighting.

That’s a pretty good number when you consider the network average was 732,000 heading into UFC 229, which took place last Saturday night (Oct. 6, 2018) in Las Vegas, Nevada. And speaking of good numbers, “Khabib vs. McGregor” is now the highest-grossing PPV of all time.

The UFC 229 “Prelims” peaked at 1,557,000 viewers for Formiga-Pettis.

The promotion will be leaving the FOX network at the end of the year and is scheduled to resurface on ESPN at some point in January. A fight card has yet to be established for the debut card, but no question Dana White and Co. will be looking to put their best foot forward.
