Report: Two Light Heavyweight Bouts Added to UFC on ESPN+ 1

The
Ultimate Fighting Championship
is stacking their debut event
held on ESPN+, the new ESPN streaming service, by adding two big
light heavyweight bouts to the card.

According to Mark La Monica of Newsday,
Glover
Teixeira
(27-7) will be facing Ion
Cutelaba
(14-3, 1 NC) at UFC on ESPN+ 1 in Brooklyn, New York,
on Jan. 19.

Coming off a decision loss to Corey
Anderson
at UFC Fight Night 134 in July, Teixeira has
alternated wins and losses in all six of his last bouts. A former
title challenger, Teixeira famously had his 20-fight win streak
snapped when he unsuccessfully took on Jon Jones for
the light heavyweight belt in 2014.

Facing him will be Cutelaba, who is riding a two-fight, first-round
knockout streak of Henrique
da Silva
and Gadzhimurad
Antigulov
. “The Hulk” holds a finish rate of 93 percent,
stopping his opponent in 13 of his 14 victories throughout his
career.

Also on the card will be a light heavyweight contest between Dana
White’s Contender Series winners, when Alonzo
Menifield
(7-0) meets Vinicius
Alves
Moreira (9-1).

The undefeated Menifield won an
Ultimate Fighting Championship
contract when he stopped
Dashawn
Boatwright
in just eight seconds at DWTNCS Season 2, Episode 1,
delivering the fastest stoppage in that promotion’s short history.
Menifield has stopped his opponent in all seven of his pro bouts
within two rounds.

His opponent, Moreira, has also stopped his opponent in all nine of
his wins within the first two rounds. He earned his own spot in the
UFC by submitting John Allen
Arte at DWTNCS Brazil, Episode 3.

UFC on ESPN+ 1, also known as UFC Fight Night 143, will take place
in Brooklyn, New York, on Jan. 19. The promotion does not yet have
a main or co-main event scheduled, but has set a women’s flyweight
matchup between Paige
VanZant
and Rachael
Ostovich
.
