Nate Wants UFC To Let Him Go…

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov put the promotion on notice earlier today (Thurs., Oct 11, 2018) by threatening to quit if his teammate Zubaira Tukhugov was let go for his part in the UFC 229 melee.

That’s because Artem Lobov — who coincidentally was in line to face Tukhugov later this month before it was scratched — was not cut for taking part in Conor McGregor’s attack on a bus full of fighters a few months ago in Brooklyn (see it), though his fight against Alex Caceres at UFC 223 was cancelled. Zubaira, meanwhile, was out-fight cut by UFC immediately after the brawl.

But Khabib isn’t the only one who wants Tukhugov to keep his spot on the UFC roster, as Nate Diaz took Twitter to stand up for the Team Khabib member.

Sort of.

Strange, indeed.

This isn’t the first time the Stockton slugger has hinted at wanting to part ways with the promotion, as he previously asked the company to let him go a few years ago. Those requests fell on deaf ears, though, as the UFC isn’t too keen on letting the “nutty” fighter go, despite the fact that he doesn’t compete very often.

Diaz was lined up to face Dustin Poirier at the upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Nov. 3, 2018, but the much-anticipated Lightweight tilt was cancelled after Poirier suffered an injury.

Now, Nate has his sights set on challenging Khabib for his 155-pound title, assuming UFC doesn’t fulfill his wish of letting him go. Or if “The Eagle” sticks to his word of calling it a career.
