Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight titleholder, Daniel Cormier, wants to be known as the best fighter in the history of mixed martial arts (MMA). Unfortunately, he’s not even the best fighter in his division.

That honor belongs to Jon Jones, who beat “DC” at UFC 182 and then again at UFC 214.

But there’s more to being a champion than just wins and losses and Cormier has earned that label both inside and outside the Octagon. Now he wants to accomplish one thing “Bones” hasn’t — despite this tease — and that’s move up in weight to capture the heavyweight crown.

“I get this done, everything I’ve always wanted, wished for and hoped for is not only a reality but it’s my truth now,” Cormier told FloCombat. “I can honestly say I am one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time and have no reservations about it and no one can question it. They can only say you know what he’s accomplished, he has that right, and he’s earned it.”

Cormier (20-1, 1 NC) was undefeated as a heavyweight under the Strikeforce and UFC banners, where he conquered the likes of Josh Barnett and Frank Mir, among others. Outside of Jones, his 205-pound run was equally fruitful, finishing Anthony Johnson and Volkan Oezdemir along the way.

“DC” will collide with Miocic (18-2) — already the baddest man at 265 pounds — when the cage door closes in the UFC 226 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, taking place this July inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
