Chiesa Eyes Condit For Welterweight Debut

After Michael Chiesa failed to make weight for his Lightweight scrap against Anthony Pettis at UFC 226 last month, “Maverick” declared he was done competing at 155 pounds and would be making a move up to Welterweight.

And he may already have an opponent lined up to welcome him to the 170-pound division, as former interim titleholder Carlos Condit confirmed his interest in facing Chiesa, possibly at the upcoming UFC 232 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Dec. 29, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Check it out:

The loss was “Maverick’s” second in a row, falling to Kevin Lee a year prior, also via submission. Prior to his skid, Chiesa had done pretty well for himself at 155 pounds, winning seven of his first nine fights inside the Octagon.

As for Condit, he’s had a very rough stretch as of late, dropping four straight with his last win coming over Thiago Alves three years ago. After briefly contemplating retirement following his loss to Demian Maia, “The Natural Born Killer” opted to get back on the horse — only to drop two more.

But Condit isn’t planning on hanging them up anytime soon (see why here), and is more than willing to show “Maverick” what it’s like to tussle with the big boys in the welterweight division.
