Jon Jones rematch not on Daniel Cormier’s radar: DC makes big claim

Cormier rematched his bitter rival last July in the main event of UFC 214, a bout which gave him the opportunity to avenge his 2015 loss to the New York native.

The Louisiana native’s pursuit of redemption didn’t bear fruit as he suffered a devastating third-round KO loss to Jones, who briefly reclaimed the light-heavyweight title.

Cormier’s world was turned upside down yet again a few weeks after that night in Anaheim when it emerged that Jones had failed a pre-fight drug test, which .

Jones’ second anti-doping violation led to Cormier being reinstated as the light-heavyweight division’s ruler and left many fans wanting the pair to have a rematch.

One would think that Cormier would want another crack at Jones given the question marks hanging over their rivalry.

However, at this moment in time, that isn’t the case.

“I want to see what happens,” Cormier said at the 220 post-fight press conference when asked if he had a message for Jones.

“Not only am I – I’m just past it right now. Until he’s able to do what we want to do, and that’s fight, I’m kind of past it. I’m kind of in this spot when it comes to Jones.

“Competitively, all I want is to fight him again, but at some point, it’s just like, is it ever going to be a fight without nothing else?

“And I don’t know if I can put myself through that again.

“I’ve done everything right and I’ve just been dragged down by this guy constantly, so I’m not thinking about it. I’m gonna do my thing for right now.”

A hearing into Jones’ second failed drug test in the USADA era will be held next month.

Should the former light-heavyweight champion be found guilty of intentionally taking the steroid found his system, he could be banned from competing for four years.
